Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral, also known as Stone House, is a magnificent Gothic-style Catholic cathedral built between 1863 and 1888. This stunning architectural masterpiece stands as the largest Gothic cathedral in Southeast Asia and represents a remarkable fusion of European religious architecture with Chinese craftsmanship. The cathedral's construction used granite from nearby quarries, giving it the nickname 'Stone House' among locals. Its twin spires reach 58.5 meters high, dominating the skyline of the old city center. The interior features beautiful stained glass windows imported from France, intricate wood carvings, and a serene atmosphere that transports visitors to medieval Europe. During the Cultural Revolution, the cathedral was heavily damaged but has since been meticulously restored to its former glory.
