Six Banyan Trees Temple also known as Liurong Temple is one of Guangzhous most famous ancient Buddhist temples dating back to 537 AD during the Southern Dynasties The temple gets its name from the six magnificent banyan trees planted by the famous poet Su Dongpo during the Song Dynasty although only three remain today The centerpiece of the temple is the stunning Flower Pagoda a magnificent octagonal structure standing 57 meters tall with nine levels that appears to have seventeen stories from the outside The pagoda is renowned for its elegant design and colorful glazed tiles that shimmer in the sunlight Inside the temple complex visitors can admire ancient Buddhist statues including a magnificent bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha weighing over 10 tons The temple has been an important center for Chan Buddhism for centuries and continues to be an active place of worship while attracting tourists with its peaceful atmosphere and rich cultural heritage
