Zhangshiyan Canyon also known as Zhangshiyan National Geological Park is a magnificent natural attraction located in Jingxing County about 50 kilometers west of Shijiazhuang The canyon features stunning red sandstone formations that have been sculpted by wind and water erosion over millions of years creating a landscape of towering cliffs deep gorges and unique rock pillars The name Zhangshiyan translates to Zhang Family Rock reflecting the local legend that the formations resemble a family standing together The area covers approximately 60 square kilometers and showcases geological wonders dating back to the Cambrian period over 500 million years ago The canyon is particularly famous for its autumn colors when the red rocks contrast beautifully with the golden foliage creating a photographers paradise
