Zhaozhou Bridge also known as Anji Bridge is the worlds oldest open spandrel stone segmental arch bridge Built around 605 AD during the Sui Dynasty this engineering marvel spans the Xiao River in Zhaoxian County The bridge was designed by master craftsman Li Chun and has survived numerous floods earthquakes and wars over its 1400year history Its innovative design features four small arches in the spandrels which reduce the bridges weight and allow floodwaters to pass through during heavy rains The bridge measures 502 meters long with a main arch span of 372 meters and stands as a testament to ancient Chinese engineering brilliance
