The Sacred Heart Cathedral also known as the Stone House is a breathtaking Gothic revival cathedral constructed entirely of granite Located in the heart of Guangzhou this architectural masterpiece was built between 1863 and 1888 during the late Qing Dynasty The cathedral stands as a remarkable fusion of European Gothic architecture and Chinese craftsmanship with its twin spires reaching 58 meters high making it the tallest church in China The cathedral features stunning stained glass windows imported from France intricate stone carvings and a magnificent rose window above the main entrance Despite facing damage during various historical periods including the Cultural Revolution the cathedral has been meticulously restored and continues to serve as an active place of worship for Guangzhou's Catholic community while also attracting visitors from around the world
