Day 1 Liwan: Lingnan craft and riverfront history

Chen Clan Academy

Built by Chen lineages from across Guangdong, the academy is now presented as a museum of Guangdong folk arts. Look beyond the main halls to the wood, brick, stone and ceramic decoration; the Guangzhou tourism bureau lists the site in Liwan beside Chen Clan Academy metro station.

Shamian Island

Walk the island’s historic streets and observe the protected building ensemble at street level. The district is still part of the city, so keep residential and business entrances clear; recent municipal work continues to focus on conserving and reusing its historic buildings.

Sacred Heart Cathedral

Visit the cathedral only during public access periods and respect services in progress. Confirm current opening and photography rules before setting out; the surrounding streets are busy, so approach on foot from a suitable transit stop.

Day 2 Yuexiu and the old commercial city

Guangxiao Temple

This temple is one of the city’s long-standing Buddhist sites. Keep voices low, follow posted visitor boundaries and check the current public access schedule; the visit works best as a quiet architectural and cultural stop rather than a hurried photo break.

Temple of the Six Banyan Trees

The temple is known for its Flower Pagoda and remains an active religious setting. Check current visitor access and any ceremony-related restrictions; observe worshippers respectfully and do not assume every hall is open to visitors.

Beijing Road Pedestrian Street

Walk the historic commercial corridor and look for the archaeological display sections integrated into the street. Treat it as a busy shopping district as well as a heritage route; use marked crossings and leave time for a meal from the many independently operated vendors.
